Seventh placed Sydney thunder face against pre tournament favorites Melbourne Stars. As expected Stars are favorites with the bookmakers.



Hussy and Kallis; Both the teams will be discussing these two names. If these Most experienced players don't fire, thunder don't win. Stars will be devising a strategy to get them cheaply. Thunder have pushed Hussy already to support the middle order. They can't drop Kallis as his bowling is still efficient. But they would be considering him to bat in the middle order.



Both teams are equal in bowling strength. Dirk Nannes is having a prolonged dip in form, which gives the Stars some edge in this department. Batting wise Stars are clearly one step ahead. Stars are an athletic fielding side as well.

16-Jan-15 - South Africa v West Indies

South Africa bring their full strength squad after testing their bench strength in the 3 T20Is. Amla, De Villiers, Steyn and Morkel are back. So Proteas are favorites with very short odds. Chris Gayle's fitness and availability may slightly tilt the odds.



More analysis needs to be done only on the West Indies batting order. Except Gayle and Samuels every one looks out of form. No Dwayne and Darren Bravo to play as well. So the bowling and batting departments missing a lot, what sort of score will they produce and how much can they defend is a mystery.



I won't say South Africa is a worry free pick. Except De Villiers and Amla all other batsmen lack consistency.

Carlton Mid Series begins tomorrow with Australia facing England in Sydney. Bookmakers have declared Australia as the clear favorites best priced @ 1.44 with BoyleSports and Ladbrokes. Bet365 has priced England @ 3.00.



Australia start this series after finding success against South Africa (ODI series) and India (Test Series). England lie in the opposite end of the spectrum. Except winning the Test Series against India they have lost 3 ODI series continuously.



Removing Cook after a prolonged dip in form looks like a good decision. The names in England batting line up are threatening now. But their lower order has many issues to address.

Both the teams' main bowlers are injured or rested. It creates a feeling that both teams' bowling stocks can be exploited. Except having home advantage I can't pin point any other factor to support the short prices on Australia.

15-Jan-15 - New Zealand v Sri Lanka

I could not post an update on time due to some connectivity issues. I came to know Chris Gayle is not playing, just before the start of the game. The people who had read my tip right would have waited.

This match has a lot of news flow already. Kane Williamson will miss the entire series. Grant Elliot won't play today. Ross Taylor comes back into the playing 11.

I think this is a great opening for Sri Lanka to win a match in New Zealand. With Mahela in good form and Kulasekara getting a lot of swing, I expect these two to make an impact today.

Faf Du Plessis is rested. Duminy makes a come back from knee injury to lead the side. Both teams depended upon one batsman to do bulk of their scoring. But that particular batsman missing for South Africa is a big worry for them as their bowling has not provided any answers yet.

2nd placed Adelaide Strikers travel to meet 3rd placed Sydney Sixers. Sixers are favorites with the some bookmakers priced best @ 1.90 [Winner] and Strikers are priced best @ 2.06 [Pinnacle].



Both the teams have played 6 matches. Both have won 4 of their matches. Sixers have 2 losses where Strikers have lost 1 and No result 1. That extra point and some extra run rate places Strikers one position above Sixers in the table.



These two teams have many similarities. Weak middle order and strong bowling setups that can defend totals. The match will be decided based on which team's batting stands up today.



I'm not much interested on the match market today as anything can happen. But I have found an interesting statistics. Travis Head in his last 5 matches, he was dismissed bowled once, run out once and stumped once. In the remaining two matches he was not out once and didn't bat once.

One man army Chris Gayle: Last T20 match was all about him. One should not forget Holder also bowled beautifully. Can South Africans turn the table around?



It's well known now that, all the West Indian batsmen have some sort of form issues except Gayle. Up to some extent the same can be said about South Africa. The telling difference between these two teams is South Africa's stronger bowling and fielding unit. If Gayle is somewhat contained today we have an interesting game on cards.

4th on table versus last on the table clash. Sixers are favorites with the bookmakers @ 1.72 and Heat are priced @ 2.10.

I don't understand why the bookmakers think these two teams are closely matched. Both the teams have played 5 matches. Sixers have 3 wins and 2 losses (One loss came in the super-over of the tied match). Heat have a solitary win to their name.



Heat have a very inconsistent bowling line up. Tall scores have been chased against them. They couldn't contain any opposition for a longer period of time. On the other hand Sixers are a very aggressive batting line up and a good one at chasing scores. Only problem with Sixers is that, they have an inconsistent middle order after a power packed opening pair.

13-17 Sep-2014 - 2nd Test - West Indies v Bangladesh

From now on I'll be posting the number of units to place on each bet. 1 unit means 0.5% of your bank.
Since WI are going slow the odds are increased to 4/7.
So I am tipping 1 unit on WI @ 4/7.

14-Sep-2014 - CL T20 - Lahore Lions v Northern Districts

Both the teams have equal set of strengths and weaknesses. LL have a good bowling unit. ND has a great batting unit.

Against Mumbai Indians,  LL showed their deficiencies in their batting. But on the other hand ND hasn't been threatened by a good spin bowling by Southern Express,  which won't be the case with LL's spin attack.

I think the LL hold a slight advantage over ND in this match. Since both the matches of 13-Sep are won by chasing teams, I will be sidelining with LL if they are chasing. I will wait for the toss to  finish and post a tip.

Update
There are certain factors I have noticed after the end of yesterday's matches. Pollard complained of a very wet ball while MI bowled. So the doubts on LLs batting gets higher. The bookmakers should have noticed this. The price on LL has been revised from 8/11 to 4/5.

So this being a match with afternoon start, chasing teams do not have a slight advantage.

There is going to be no tips for this match. I will advise you to avoid. But for people who wants to enter I'll post the strategies.

1. Pick the chasing team after toss.
2. Pick Lahore Lions @ 4/5 and go In-Play to pick Northern Districts @ 2/1 or higher to cover your investments.
3. Play for a swing of fortunes.
Pick both the teams @ 6/4 while In-Play.

It's up to the individual to chose one of the strategies. Do your own research before doing so. Go for low stakes.

14-Sep-2014 - Mumbai Indians v Southern Express

Mumbai Indians were troubled by some good fast bowling by the Lahore Lions in their first match. on the other hand Southern Express lost the match to Northern Districts due to poor bowling. The SE's strength was expected to be their spin department. But their spinners leaking runs against a Newzealand team in the sub-continent shows their lack of experience.

SE are showing their lack of experience and application in both their Batting and Bowling department. But MI are comparatively better with their Bowling than their Batting.

I expect the MI team to shake the rustiness with the bat and come good in this match in order to survive in the Qualifiers.

13-Sep-2014 - 2nd Test - West Indies v Bangladesh

I am not going to provide a detailed analysis for this match.

Chris Gayle won't be playing for WI and Imrul Kayes won't play for BD. I don't think these factors will affect the result.

I expect the Gros Islet pitch to be more alive than the 1st test pitch at Kingston.

13-Sep-2014 - CL T20 - Mumbai Indians v Lahore Lions

In the previous editions of CL T20 Pakistan teams have fared poorly. Enter the most consistent team of Pakistani domestic T20 circuit [CSK of Pakistan??]. Heavy hitting top order, experienced fast bowlers, an gem of a domestic spinner unknown to the world (and sub continent advantage) makes Lahore Lions.

The main problem that they have lies with their in experienced middle order. Also this team comprises of purely Pakistani players. The lack of foreign internationals creates the image that this team is an Pakistan B team. So the Pakistan team's over aggressive approach, spectacular collapses (or victories) may get reflected in this teams performances as well.

The favourites to win this match Mumbai Indians also have their own problems. Captain Rohit sharma injured and out the tournament. Since he opens the innings for MI,  the batting order needs to be adjusted a bit. Lend Simmons has cemented his place as the opener. But the lower middle order batsmen Ambati Rayudu, Corey Anderson, Pollard have to clean up the mess that may be created by a brittle top order. Mumbai's strength undoubtedly in this tournament will be their bowling with Malinga, Ojha and Harbhajan.

This match is going to test which side has a lot of weaknesses in their batting.

13-Sep-2014 - CL T20 - Northern Districts v Southern Express

Northern Districts of New Zealand and Southern Express from Sri Lanka are locking horns in the first qualifier match of CL T20 2014 edition.

The Southerns hold the sub-continent advantage. But the last minute withdrawal of their captain Dilshan has tilted the advantage towards the Northerns.

Northerns side is very balanced and consistent. The absence of Vettori won't be felt heavily since he has been struggling with form or injury concerns for quite some time. On both bowling and batting front Northerns are looking better than Southerns [Except the spin bowling department]

The Southerns may try and exploit the Northern's spin weaknesses. But with the likes of Kane Williamson Northerns are expected to prevail the challenge.
